A blonde, a brunette and a red head walk into a bar..

Dr. Sketchy Auckland is proud to present not one, but THREE fabulous models for you in September! Presenting the troublesome trio from Provocateur Productions!

One is a pint sized hell raising rebel - risque and rock'n'roll.
The second a seductive siren - sexy and sumptuous tease.
The other a lady of opposite forces - sultry and satirical.

They are a trio who offer up variety and versatility in all their ventures.

They are Ms Ruby Rebel, Madam Mutiny and Vola Tile.

They are Provocateur Productions.

Your MC for the evening is Headmistress and long time Dr. Sketchy MC Lilly Loca, who will entertain you with irreverent banter (she blames the wine), scandelous stories and sing songs. Her wing man for the evening in charge of all the technical mumbo-jumbo will be Mark "Grindr" Rous, who does the best burlesque bump n' grind this side of the galaxy. True story.

Bring your favourite tools: pens, paper, pencils, crayons, glue, cameras and/or finger paint. Dr. Sketchy is open to anyone, regardless of creed, colour and artistic style.

$10 on the door to feed the model. Please note, we are becoming rather popular & as such, we recommend you come early to ensure a seat! We start at 7pm sharp.

Thanks to our awesome patrons of the arts: Jeremy of Arkham City Comics - Auckland, art sponsor Takapuna Art Supplies, and of course our mighty overlord of The Wine Cellar, Rohan (Buy him a drink. Buy yourself a drink. Buy everyone a drink!).

Some exciting news arrived in my inbox today. A chance for all you wonderful artists & budding comic creators to get your work out into the big wide world & find yourself an audience.

Just launched via SXSW, comiXology is a digital comics platform which aims to get self published comics out to the masses via iPad, iPhone, Android, Kindle Fire, and Windows 8 apps. Creators split the profits equally with comiXology and retain full ownership of their work.

We hope to see some of our Sketchy regulars self-published very soon! You can thank us by gifting us a sweet signed sketch of your overlords Leda & Lilly.

A regular of Dr. Sketchy Auckland, Vivien Masters, has started a new art project aimed at helping seriously ill and disabled children. In Vivien's words:

"This year I’ve launched an international non-profit collaborative art project called ‘The Dreamscape Project’. This project will see me work with seriously ill &/or disabled children in Auckland and New York- but I need your help to make it happen!

I’ve started a fundraising campaign on crowd-funding site indiegogo.com. The money raised will help me to afford the cost of the art materials but most importantly, it will allow me to invest the significant amount of time needed to make this project a success. In return I’m offering rewards for donations, which range from hand-written thank you postcards with doodles drawn on them, to limited edition art prints, to original sketches created for the Dreamscape Project!

Please visit my campaign page for more info and to donate so that I can make art with these deserving children and young."

Take a look at The Dreamscape Project and enjoy and donate as you see fit. Vivien is a talented artist, and we're proud to have her as part of the Auckland Sketchy community.

A very successful night that blended New Zealand's fashion industry with Dr. Sketchy artists thanks to Barbara Holloway of the Krd Business Association. The perfect way to start New Zealand's first Fashion Festival, Fashion Speed Dating combined some of our top fashion industry experts with artists & burgeoning fashionistas.

Dr. Sketchy MC Lilly Loca was the perfect mistress of ceremonies; laying a firm (but fair) hand on dates who clung a little to tightly to their icons' designer threads as she strode about on those gazelle-like legs. Mmmmmmhmmmm.

Oh hello Auckland based sketchers! Do I have a treat for you. Barbara Holloway of Krd Business Association has approached us here at Sketchy HQ with a very special request. She is orchestrating a Fashion Speed Dating night on Fri 24 February (a night where fashion newbies get to speed date with fashion experts), which will also feature a wearable art event with creative designers creating paper garments from scratch. She's very keen to have Dr. Sketchy sketchers take part as artistic documenters of the event rather than photography, sketching the designers & such at work.

It's also a perfect opportunity for any of you who are interested to meet some pretty experienced industry folk & have a chat about your work. Who knows, maybe even get some future work. Some of the heavy hitters include the Editor of VIVA, James Dobson Jimmy D, Dianne Ludwig Fashion Business Advisor and New Zealand Fashion Museum Trustee, Andrew Trott Artistic Director Trelise Cooper Group & The New Zealand Herald & Freelance stylist and The AUT School of Fashion amongst others. There is a small koha for those involved, & limited places. Email me on ms.sketchy@gmail.com if you're keen along with a little blurb detailing why you'd like to be part of this awesome evening of art & fashion!

Miss Lilly Loca will be there MCing the event, as will I. We reckon it'll be pretty fabulous (dahling).

We reckon we're pretty fashion! Yeah.

Hi fellow Sketchers, a Dr. Sketchy attendee & successful commercial artist (& our super MC Brett's mom) Kelley Diener has started a business providing weekend art retreats on the beautiful Waiheke Island in Auckland, NZ.

"Art, wine, food, fishing, walks, olive oil and jaw dropping seaviews are what Waiheke Island is famous for. High tourist time: December – April. Winter is for many on the island a time for hibernation. “Nah,” I say! Lets do art, wine, food, fishing, walks, olive oil besides looking at the view." - Kelley Diener

For those folks interested, take a look at the Waiheke Getaway Art Workshops website.

My aren't we lucky?

Dr. Sketchy Auckland is proud to announce their collaboration with Auckland City Council and The Edge for the Pick and Mix project. Pick and Mix is a family focused programme aimed at bringing a wide range of arts and cultural events from New Zealand’s top performing arts companies and artists free of charge. The programme starts on 11 June and runs every Sunday until 27 August. (Full list of events here).

Dr. Sketchy Auckland’s session will be the finale of the programme, starting with a performance from circus and physical theatre luminaries Beth Kayes & Eve Gordon, and followed by a sketching workshop for all ages.

We will be situated in the Concert Chamber of the Auckland Town Hall (and are rather pleased to have scored such a prestigious venue).

I've had a request from an international burlesquer: Minksy Malone (pictured), who's looking for an artist to illustrate her upcoming book. You can visit her website HERE.

She's looking for Vaudville inspired illustrations in particular; a little bit victorian, a little bit old world.

If this sounds like you please email her a portfolio of your work (which includes one example of the style she is after) to minskymalone@houseofburlesque.com
