Ruby Joule has been performing her award-winning acts all over the continent from Montreal to Las Vegas to Bourbon Street since 2006. She has been awarded “Most Original,” “Best Costume,” and “Texas Performer of the Year,” honors, and she is a founding member and co-producer of The Jigglewatts Burlesque in Austin, Texas. An avid student of both classic and neo burlesque, she has studied with some of the greats including Joan Arline, Ellion Ness, Michelle L’Amour, and Jo Weldon, and she also co-taught a world dance workshop at BurlyCon 2011. Her style dances the spectrum from the whimsical to the enigmatic, and she is known for her effortless grace, formidable elegance, and the lavish glamour of her routines. Model, music video queen, film actress, international burlesque sensation, and writer for Rockabilly-Online Magazine, there aren’t enough hours in the day for this lone starlet!

Dr. Sketchy’s is a life drawing class turned cabaret extravaganza. Artists draw glamorous underground performers, compete in contests, and win booze and prizes. From its humble Brooklyn beginnings, it’s spread to 100 cities on five continents- including London, Rome, Tokyo, Paris, Sao Paulo and Melbourne.

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School – the premiere alternative drawing movement in Austin – features costumed live models, prizes and booze! All kinds of artists are welcome, from the complete amateur to the advanced. Open to everybody! You’re a terrible artist? Who cares! Don’t forget to bring your own drawing materials.

GoGo McGregor is an award winning Burlesque dancer, and has been traveling and performing all over the country for the past five years. She’s known nationally for her gorgeous feather fan dancing, as well as her death defying bed of nails Burlesque! With “the face of a pin up and the mouth of a sailor”, this gal’s cheeky and playful, yet seductive performances are guaranteed to leave audiences smiling from ear to ear. She has been known to tour the country with such acts as The 999 Eyes Freakshow & Sideshow (Austin), Beggars Carnivale (St. Louis), The Show Me Burlesque Tour, and her most recent project The VagaBandits (New Orleans). GoGo mixes the class of old Burlesque with the fun and excitement of the Circus & Sideshow. She’s won such awards as “Best Burlesque Performance” St. Louis 2010 River Front Times, was named champion of the national Shimmy Showdown 2010 and voted #32 in “Top 50 Burlesque Performers in the World” 2011 (21st Century Burlesque). Besides Burlesque and Sideshow, GoGo is also a stunning emcee, pin up model, Vaudevillian and seamstress.

We brought Molly Crabapple's Reverse Mermaid to life during SXSW in Austin, Texas. Burlesque performers Crimson Skye (London) and Sassy De Lure (Seattle) modeled costume sculptures created by artist Aaron Flynn (Austin) and a pink wig by Coco Coquette. Artists at the session had the rare chance to sketch models wearing unique sculptures at the fabulous Swan Dive. Photos of the evening by Nathan Black, John Adams, and Angeliska Polacheck.

Amelia Raley (as a Bawdy Bewigged Crabapple character!) was more mobile, and posed for the warm-up sketches.

We hosted a very special session of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School by outfitting our models as Meat Cake characters. Agent Ribbons, Boosy Cray (featuring former members of the Blackstrap Molasses Family Travelin' Medicine Show) and Death By Doll rounded out the evening with musical performances after the drawing session.

Wax Wolf and Richard Dirt got in a tiff on stage. She pulled a hatchet on him later. Friend the Girl, Effuluvia and Dame Darcy Friend the Girl, Effluvia the mermaid, and Dame Darcy as supreme Unicorn. Scampi Scampi the Selfish Shellfish (this costume & Wax Wolf's head created by the very talented Aaron Flynn!)

Meat Cake

This was our biggest show yet! Over 60 people were drawing, and some very incredible drawings were made this evening.

We had so much fun! Special thanks to Dame Darcy for the incredible evening and inspiration and Angeliska for the photos.
