Join us at Creative Alliance for our first night of drinks and drawing of 2020, featuring Jacqueline Boxx, the amazing Miss Disa-burly-TEASE, who links burlesque, glamour and spectacle to disability! Enjoy a delicious cocktail or two while competing in our off-the-wall drawing contests for awesome prizes from Blick Art Materials—no drawing experience is necessary, but bring your own art supplies and cash tips for Jacqueline!

Here's more about our January model:

"In 2017, Jacqueline Boxx became the first performer to ever compete in a wheelchair for a title at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekender. Her mobility aids are as enticing as her activism, and she packs an aesthetic and emotional punch, whether she brings classic tease, nerdlesque, or neo-burlesque to the stage. Her background before disability involved trapeze, circus, hooping, cabaret, theater, bellydance, swing dance, ballet, and numerous other kinds of performance art, including touring with The Dresden Dolls as part of their Brigade. Her mobility decreased gradually and these performance outlets lessened as well, until she burst back onto the stage in 2015 with a renewed feeling of partnership with her disabled body. She has headlined and been featured in burlesque festivals across the globe, including being invited onto the Burlesque Hall of Fame stage twice. Jacqueline has also taught workshops and lectured on panels about mindful movement and burlesque basics across the country.

"Her acts are all related in some way to her experience with chronic pain and limited mobility, and she strives to bring attention through glamour and spectacle to disability. She is: Miss Disa-burly-TEASE!"

Dr. Sketchy’s Baltimore’s 11th Anniversary featuring Sabrina Chap

Draw the amazing singer/songwriter Sabrina Chap at our eleventh anniversary celebration, which will be our last session at The Windup Space, which is closing its doors after eleven years of hosting a wide range of eclectic and amazing events. The Windup Space has been our beloved home for a decade, and we couldn't have reached this double-digit milestone without it, so on what will be the Windup's last day (which is why this session’s early on a Saturday evening), let's have a few drinks together to celebrate its eleven wonderful years, and ours, all while creating some tipsy sketches of Sabrina, who'll be striking sassy poses and singing a couple songs for your inspiration. There'll be crazy drawing contests with neat prizes from Blick Art Materials, too.

We should mention that Sabrina's coming down from NYC just for this—it's been years since she's performed in Baltimore. It might have made more sense for us to book a beloved Baltimore performer for the last event at this beloved Baltimore venue, but when we learned that the Windup Space was closing and that this might be our last session (which it may very well be, if we can't find a venue that will be a good fit for us in the next month or so), we approached Sabrina, who's been a major part of many of our favorite moments at the Windup Space, including the time she serenaded us at our wedding reception afterparty with a cover of "I'll Make Love to You" by Boyz II Men. She's only modeled for us twice in our long history, and it's been seven years since her last session with us, but in those two sessions, she's made many fans among past and present Sketchy's regulars, and we've gotten quite a few requests to have her back, so to those folks: Here's your chance—don't blow it! And to those of you who've never heard of her, join us on June 1st to see why we love her so much!

Here's more about this marvelous performer:

"Sabrina Chap is a Brooklyn-based songwriter, composer and performer. She’s got classical piano skills, the ballad lyrics of Tom Waits, the onstage antics of Phyllis Diller and the voice of a whiskey angel. Described as ‘Rousing!’ by the New Yorker, her sets are a ragtime stompin’ good time, full of laughs, heartbreaks, and just plain good songwriting."

"Sabrina Chap blazes through her boozy, bluesy set with all the delicacy of a pneumatic drill, dishing out smut, satire and existential dread in equal measure. The onslaught is relentless. Think Eartha Kitt. Think female Tom Waits. Think nihilistic Cole Porter. Her comedic deftness is matched by her musical prowess and her magnetism is undeniable."—Somna Theatre"

Join us for this month’s night of drinks and drawing at The Windup Space featuring one of our favorite models, Maria Bella! We’ve had Maria at our Sketchy’s a few times over our nearly eleven-year history, but we keep bringing her back for more of her dynamic poses, her stunning costumes, and her preternatural ability to smile through a 20-minute pose. She was part of the spectacular cast of our 10th anniversary celebration, but it's been three years since her last solo session with us, so if you were at our anniversary event and wished you'd had more time to focus on Maria, here's your chance!

We're deviating slightly from our "2nd Monday of the month" schedule so that we can bring you the amazing Martika—international variety entertainer and one woman stunt show—all the way from Kansas City! Join us on Monday the 16th for a night of drinks, drawing, and a daring sideshow performance by Martika, plus crazy contests with prizes from Blick Art Materials!

A little more about Martika:

Martika is an international variety entertainer based in Kansas City, MO. She is the C.E.O. of KC Entertainment Services, LLC. Born into a military family, Martika began traveling the world at a young age. This exposure to international performers sparked her interest in the circus arts, and at the age of 8 she ignited her passion for the performing arts through training in jazz dance and classical ballet. Her passion for dance flourished when she discovered hula hooping. Constantly looking to push herself, in 2008 Martika sought out the best teachers to further her knowledge in fire arts and sideshow danger stunts.

Martika is the only one woman stunt show, and the only female sword swallower, in Kansas City. She travels solo around the world performing circus acts, fire arts, escapology, and sideshow stunts. She also teaches a variety of workshops, including at the popular international Wanderlust 108 festivals.

Martika graces the audience with her playful charm. Don't let this fool you... from hula hooping with barbed wire to swallowing swords, her distinctively spectacular show will make the audience laugh and leave them asking... "HOW DID SHE DO THAT!? I want to see more!"

Dr. Sketchy’s Baltimore: the 10th Anniversary Celebration!

For ten years, Dr. Sketchy’s Baltimore has been bringing together artists of all levels to draw fabulous models and compete in crazy drawing contests for prizes, all in an atmosphere of boozy, creative conviviality. Come celebrate a decade of dazzling life drawing at this special session, featuring four of our favorite models—Nona Narcisse, Maria Bella, Hot Todd Lincoln, and GiGi Holliday—who’ll also be performing, plus a bunch of contests with prizes from Blick Art Materials!

Note the later start time, since this is a rare moment when we’re not on a school night! We won’t be able to contain this much fun in our usual three hours and, after all the drawing’s done, we’ll stick around for another drink or three to chat and see everyone’s sketches, so get ready to stay out and celebrate with us!
