Our first Summer Nights session came with a very fitting Grease theme!!! Everyone at Dr.Sketchy’s Dublin HQ was super excited about it. We had the stunning Epiphany DeMeanour as Sandy Olsson and Lycan Animal as heart throb Danny Zuko.

This talented pair are no strangers to the stage they also provided the sessions entertainment too. Over the course of 3 hours we saw Sandy transform from demure girl next door into a smoking hottie! (If you dont believe me check out the photos & the amazing black pants Epiphany/ Sandy is wearing.)
We got to see a whole new side to Danny Zuko as he gave us a fantastic cross dressing rendition of Look at me, I’m Sandra Dee. Things heated up with their rendition of You’re the one that I want as there was slight hint of bondage! As Danny stripped down to his smalls he realised the T-Bird logo was missing from his underwear. Cue blushing girl from the audience to doodle the logo on his underpants!!!

The poses were hilarious and imaginative too as they had a Greased Lighting prop to play around with. We were also entertained by the films sound track, a caption competition, booze and cupcakes. And yet again the whole team pulled off a fantastic session.

It was also a day for lots of visitors and Sketchy regular models to pop in as it was the same day as the Pride 2012 Parade in Dublin City. Phil T Gorgeous and Sade O’Sapphic stopped by to say Hi! and fill us in on all the celebrations around the city for the day, which also made us a bit jealous as we would have loved to have attended and taken part in the festivities.

Dublin summers are usually notable for the grey skies and chill in the air, but on the last Saturday in May, we experienced a bit of a heat wave – ironically, as our theme was better suited to a gloomy day! So, we cranked up the air conditioning, kept the pitchers of ice-cold cocktails topped up and celebrated the 2nd birthday of our branch with a Miss Havisham themed session!

Our models were Blue Ruin and Postmodern Sleeze, while we were treated to the musical stylings of Lady K & Ruby Noir who put a jazzy twist on contemporary songs.

We will be back in 4 Dame Lane on the 30th June in our new later time slot of 5pm to 8pm with a Grease themed session featuring Epiphany DeMeanour and Jonas Wal. Tickets on sale now!

If you cannot wait that long, you can check out our very special sessions for Dublin Pride this weekend at the Little Green Street Gallery. Secure your places by paying a deposit here!

I’m delighted to say that our new venue is working out an absolute treat for us in The Good Bits, so much so that our resident photographer Griffpics can unleash his talents and truly capture the whole session – models, performers, audience and the fantastic art work that is being produced at our a sessions.

So this month I am going to let the pictures speak a thousand words!

New Year, New Venue, New Models and New Performers!! Modelling in January is Sketchy’s darling Postmodern Sleeze and popping her Sketchy’s cherry, the stunning Ta-Tu Sedition. Joining the girls on stage, we are very thrilled to announce Tribal Fusion Belly Dance pioneers The Orchids.
The Orchids blasted onto the Irish scene in July 2009 as a newly formed 4 piece troupe of tribal fusion bellydancers. The Orchids compromise of uber talented and eclectic Irish ladies all hailing from Dublin, each a performer in their own right came together under ‘The Orchids’ and are considered to be the pioneering force in Tribal Fusion Bellydance in Ireland – its bellydance but not a glittering costume in sight! In under a year The Orchids have developed a cult following and have sell out shows in Dublin and Belfast under their coin belts.

It’s not that long ago that we were saying goodbye to the Twisted Pepper and moving on to a bigger and better space in Shebeen Chic. We loved our new venue and were quite content… but we were still a bit squished!
Unfortunately, we were left with very little extra elbow room and were definitely restricted if we wanted to grow.
Enter ‘The Good Bits’ – formerly Radio City, and before that it was Isaac Butts – newly refurbished, under new management and with a Main Stage Room that can comfortably fit 150 people seated, all with a clear view of the Red Velvet-Draped Stage!

We close the chapter on Dr. Sketchy’s Dublin at Shebeen Chic, and open a new chapter in The Good Bits on January 29th at 3pm!

We hope to see lots familiar faces and new faces!

Twas the night before Halloween and all through the house, not a creature was stirring…

Oops, no, we’ve gotten ahead of ourselves there! Probably because after Saturday’s session in our new venue Shebeen Chic, we’re now VERY excited about heading back there for Christmas!! It’s cosy, atmospheric and our post-Sketchy’s feed upstairs was fabulous comfort food – chunky chips, beef stew, bangers & mash!

I’ll be honest, I hardly slept a wink on Friday night worrying about the move and set-up in the new venue, but I need not have worried. The staff in Shebeen Chic were incredibly helpful and made it all a breeze. The models arrived, Postmodern Sleeze and Sadistik Sedition who had been transformed into Edwina Scissorhands with make-up by Mimi Misfit at Illamasqua in BT2.

Lilly De Valle reignites my love of burlesque whenever she performs. A mixture of cute innocence, with a body made for sin (yes, I’m allowed say that), she balances her performances with grace, humour and a sprinking of gore. We were treated to her version of ‘Sweeney Todd’ and a zombie nurse routine, both went down a treat.

We were thrilled to be joined by Roisin Corrigan of Apollonia Tribal Bellydance who not only performed two numbers, but also posed for drawings!

We are aware that the lighting on the stage could have been better and will have additional lighting for XXX-mas Sketchys – and we also welcome any feedback on the venue, the performances, the sessions in general.

Don’t forget to send in your Sketchy’s artwork to info@drsketchysdublin.com to be in with a chance to win a free pass to our Christmas session on 27th November.

A huge thanks as always to our resident photographer Griffpics.com for the fantastic shots.

Before I ever thought about applying to take over the Dr. Sketchy’s Dublin Branch, I had walked into The Mezz in The Twisted Pepper and thought it would be the perfect venue for a Dr. Sketchy’s session. I was right, it has been the perfect place to start our new branch and we have been really happy there for the past few months.

However regular attendees will have noted that lately we’ve all been getting to know each other intimately as we squeeze in to the Mezz every month, it’s starting to become a little less than cosy and last month’s move to The Main Stage Room was a success and a gave us all a bit of elbow and leg room. Fortunately for the Twisted Pepper, they have recently secured a weekly Saturday Market that will have a long-term booking in the Main Stage Room and that’s unfortunate for us, as we were left with the choice to stay in the Mezz or to look for a new venue.

Happily, a new home fell in our laps last weekend when we came across the perfect venue – Shebeen Chic!! Part venue, part shabby chic mis-matched living room, it strikes the perfect balance between being cosy without sitting in each other’s laps!

Join us this Saturday as we celebrate Halloween in our new venue:

We are very excited to announce that alongside our models Postmodern Sleeze and Sadistic Sedition, and performances from the lovely Lilly De Valle, we will be joined by the beautiful and talented Roisin of Apollonia Tribal Bellydance.

Tribal Style Bellydance can best be described as a stylistic evolution of Traditional Bellydance with an earthy dance vocabulary grounded in deep muscular control and isolation, favouring a classical and “antique” aesthetic with its costuming. Roisin will be performing and also striking a few Tribal Bellydance poses for your sketchy pleasure.

If you can’t wait until Saturday to check out Roisin and her dance partner Aoife, on Friday night at their phonemonally successful “Apollonia Presents … A Night of International Dance” night at Dublin’s exclusive Odessa Club.
