Flex meets sketch!

We’ve had interest from even more journo folk as Falmouth & Exeter uni’s student newspaper, Flex, published an article on the October event.

Sarah Louise Stevenson swapped her notebook for a sketchbook as she arrived, all very curious, to the evening that featured Cherry Shakewell and Meme Narciss. My musings here are nowhere near as captivating to read as Sarah’s article, so take a peek at Flex issue 12 for an insight into all our inky naughtiness.

A macabre tale of blood, bodies and bunnies by resident Dr Sketchy's Flamouth blogger, Royzy.

Due to grim and unfortunate events, our fabulous host Fondant Fancy was unable to be present for the Dr. Sketchy's Falmouth Halloween Special. If the horrifying rumours are true, she may never be seen again. In our beloved host's absence, the hot spot was taken by Dollface Dolores, her restless porcelain counterpart.

The night opened up with a Halloween treat, in the form of an eerie awakening and a little disrobing from our initially inanimate Dollface. There is something unnerving about a child's play striptease, but simply compelling to watch. In fact it was kind of sexy, some scope for a fetish perhaps?

And look who has climbed back out of the rabbit hole! By the state of Miss Malice's dress, I don't think many were left alive down there. Except for her lovely new pet rabbit, dragged to the surface with a chain around its neck and a knife to it's throat. Those with red crayons and paints were well prepared for the stage sacrifice and the blood bath that ensued. Oh Malice, how we've missed you!

I would say this was Miss Kinky Pink's debut show, but those of you who attended the last event would still have wet taste buds from the sneak peak she gave us. Miss Kinky Pink had a raunchy performance lined up for us, split across two parts. You could hear chairs being dragged forward during her performance, as she began ruffling her feathers against those nearest.

Since I was trusted with choosing the contests for this Halloween special, I thought I'd go with a few Halloween nasties - gore, some extra limbs, octopus rape and a little flirting with the undead. Decorating Miss Kinky Pink with a variety of extra appendages lead to some spectacular sketches crammed with activity.

It wasn't long before Miss Malice returned in poisonous pink latex and clenching a wrist tight whip. During her set, sketchers were required to incorporate an 8 limbed underwater friend into one of their sketches. I saw at least two drawings of octopus fellatio around the room, which to me indicated a successful contest choice. Is this not why we come to Dr. Sketchy's?

After a short break, began Miss Kinky Pink: Part II. The second half of Miss Pink's act was jaw dropping to say the least! An incredibly energetic performance to the Lady Gaga Vs. Metallica Telephone Remix. After an assisted costume change on stage, we had some more delightful poses and our final contest of the night, leading to some suggestive skeletal sketches.

To top the night of terror off, there was a surprise toy box bonus round featuring our super evening Djs and an encore from our Dollface Dolores! Teddy bears composing puppet strings and lively dolls made for the perfect climax to our Halloween special.

Thank you to the models, our wonderful evening host and the famous Party Zone for sponsoring us. We all had a brilliant night and hope to see you all again next month! Although we may have to ban the Halloween bride who turned up and won all our prizes.

Next month we have some samurai action with KayKay Sakura and a performance from Bleu Belle of Black Cherry Burlesque. It will be on Tuesday 23rd November, for the usual duration of 7-10pm at Mango Tango's. Be sure to get a ticket and come down to see us!

Well blow me down! This months Dr Sketchy's took it up another level, with Cherry Shakewell returning for a second evening of tassel twirling for us in Falmouth, as well as putting on what I hear to be an excellent burlesque workshop before the evenings sketching commenced. I say hear, because this was a ladies only workshop and no sneakery could get me passed those doors. The long awaited Meme Narciss made her debut appearance this month, and it was certainly worth the wait!

We all love a bit of performance with our drinks and drawing, and this month we were presented with a delightful treat. Not only did Meme Narciss have something special ready for us, but Cherry Shakewell would be doing TWO performances, one of which never before seen! Three performances. One night. Falmouth, are you are lucky or what?

After a quick warm up sketch of our beautiful host, the show opened up with Cherry's first performance for the evening, a tasty tease in her cupcake corset. After a delicate dance and a sprinkling of confetti, her sweet buns were taken off display and Meme Narciss initiated her Marlene Dietrich as a Nazi performance, complete with lipstick cigarette and stockings. There is nothing quite like a strong sexy woman in uniform, even if she wouldn't hesitate to put a boot in your face for forgetting your manners.

When Cherry returned for her act, the sketchers were hot and ready for another display. Deliciously decorated and performing an assortment of poses. One of this month's competitions was to place Cherry in a farmyard situation and the number of graphic milking scenes were not unexpected. There were a special selection of boys and girls prizes this month, to make sure both sex had a chance for a lovely little treat.

Our second burlesque performance of the night, Meme Narciss showed us some mesmerizing tricks and a number of places she could hide cards. Sketchers darted around the room for a good spot to sketch for Meme's first pose, which had her lay down. Being the busiest night to date, there was fighting for the eye candy!

Those perplexed by the small pieces of paper, passed around on arrival, were about to have their minds put at rest. Or possibly not, as the task was to draw part of Meme, or as much as possible, within the tiny square. I personally went for the head, though an alarming number sketchers went for armpits and side boob. Cheeky!

For our final display, our underwater Cherry Queen was back from the depths to unveil her shimmery new show! Swinging her trident around and making waves left and right, our sketchers were left gasping for breath. A fantastic climax to our fifth event!

We hope you're all ready for the Halloween special, it will see the return of our macabre Miss Malice and the debut show for Miss Kinky Pink, whom those who attended the last event will of received a sneaky couple of poses from. Thanks again to our splendidly generous prize donators this month, Kits Boutique, Spice and Two Little Birds.

Remember that although the next event returns to the starting time of 7pm, it is to be held at the venue of 5 Degrees Below. Hope you all had a great time and see you on November 2nd!

You'd be forgiven for thinking Mango Tango's had been the scene of a bloody massacre as you approached the stage prepped for Cruella and Eon's psychiatric unit. This provocative pair are Falmouth's debut double-act and it was certainly set to be a treat!

Even from within the constraints of a straitjacket and wheelchair, flesh could not be held back for long. With two models on stage together, it allowed for intimate interaction and unique poses that our sketchers had not encountered before now. A dark soundtrack echoed around the ward, whilst our models encouraged anything but rehabilitation.

After locking down the insanity ward, Betty Corbeau spun the globe and took us to a safer locale. Flaunting garlands, a grass skirt and little else, this flowery delight was ready to hula along the beach with her flamingo on display. Sketchers were asked to turn Miss Corbeau into a film character of their choosing, which had them scratching down their favourites, from Charlie Chaplin to Mary Poppins.

'Now where is our Victorian drag act', I hear you cry. Well you were in luck to bare witness to the finest looking moustachioed man-ladies since 1837. The stage lighting added an unexpected twist to the atmosphere, giving our models the perfect chance set themselves up within the crowd and get all personal with their poker faces and chess board shenanigans. A longer pose saw the return of the classic sketchbook-swap, where pairs could scribble on each others’ sketches to create freakish, hybrid super-drawings!

Sketchers of Falmouth were privileged to see Betty Corbeau perform her all-new Harpie Marx act, complete with the grabbing of honking horns and tangled underwear. Betty kept her act going for the entirety of the set and performed some brilliant poses like the fisty-cuffs. How on earth she managed to get all her kit within that jacket, we will never know.

A fight almost broke out over the subject of this month's incorporate an animal from your imagination round. Our fabulous host, Fondant Fancy, silenced any giraffe doubters by simply suggesting they chose the alternative. That'll learn 'em! Sketches of Harpie Marx groping giraffe testicles confirmed that good quality mind-filth was present as usual, and that is just how we like it. Contest winners were spoilt with some very artsy-craftsy prizes... colouring books, felt pens and one lucky winner bagging an Etch A Sketch.

A huge thank you to Loading Cafe on Quay Street, Falmouth for the amazing prize offerings. Also, thank you to our fantastic time-keeper, Emma from Two Little Birds, for helping contain Fondant’s oft meanderings.

Make sure you join us on October 19 as the night features the highly anticipated Meme Narciss and marks the return of the spectacular Cherry Shakewell! Tickets for October are only being sold online, so make sure you grab a pre-booking. This session will be between 8-11pm, and not the regular 7-10pm. The reason for the time-tweak only concerns ladies, whom may read on (gentlemen, avert your eyes!)...

--Ladies-- This is an unmissable opportunity to get wild and have a shake down with international star Cherry Shakewell at her burlesque workshop! This is a one-off chance to tassel and twirl with the best. So if you’d like to give it a try and have some naughty fun, make sure you book yourself a ticket at www.drsketchysfalmouth.co.uk. Spectacular, spectacular, Dr. Sketchy's Falmouth is in full stride! This month, Slippery Nipples were lined up across the bar, fresh stockings were thrown out to competition winners and those who attended in July may have glimpsed a familiar face as the macabre Miss Malice joined the sketchers!

What's in the suitcase, Roxy? Ooh, put that away, you’ll scare the children! Summer girls should step aside as Roxy Soxoff needed a patch to stretch out her beach towel. Having brought a beach ball along to perform some very tempting poses, Roxy then sunbathed in her glorious 50s bikini whilst sketchers invited to her seaside rendezvous were spotted shuffling for a fill of different angles.

There was a downing of liquor in anticipation of our second model, the raunchy rodeo showgirl, Gigi Ryder. Quickly herding our sketchy crowd at the crack of a whip, Gigi mounted her hobby horse and got down to some saloon-girl teasing. Prizes were offered for surrounding her with the most inventive of locations which led to a showdown between a splashingly underwater scene versus the moon!

The latter half of this decadent evening began with a drop of tea and cakes as a tea-party was hosted by our delicious Roxy. Sketchers were given a taste of her offerings as she sauntered in her rockabilly attire into the audience with an array of sweet treats before revealing some tastefully lacy undergarments. The audience competed to sketch the fastest and try their hand at including this month’s imaginary animal, the Jackson Chameleon, into one of her delicate poses… complete with reptilian afros and boy-band harmonies!

And finally, if the pre-act pole rubbing wasn't enough, Gigi Ryder was about to demonstrate that she had a lot more yet to deliver with a tantalising pole dancing show. Skirts and frills were flaunted as she gathered speed to twirl and twist her way around the pole whilst elegantly removing clothing- all at altitude! A huge amount of respect to the talented Gigi for holding out some amazingly poses high up on that pole just for us sketchers to encapsulate.

As another eclectic evening came to a close, many thanks to Tyto Boutique for contributing a collection of wonderful prizes.

Make sure you and your friends head to Mango Tango's on 28 September as Betty Corbeau will be performing her all new Harpie Marx act! Plus there’s the eagerly awaited alt-girl double act from Cruella and Eon- two gals on stage for your drawing pleasure and it seems that they’ll be luring us into a psychiatric ward this month before toffing and ‘taching up in some Victoriana. We hope to see you there!

Since the Falmouth branch popped up in Cornwall, we’ve been intriguing and enticing the locals with our naughty drawing fun!

Last week we graced the most apt of pages of the West Briton newspaper, page 3, as ‘Great turn turnout for Sketchy’s new style of life art session’. Which indeed it was- sold out in fact!

We were also slap bang on the front page of Augusts’ 247 magazine where I had the pleasure of a being interviewed for their ‘Burlesque meets biro’ article where I’m quizzed about what exactly it is that we get up to once the doors shut, pencils are sharpened and the music starts.

I’ve also just been nattering on air with Matthew and Tristan at Source fm who fancied in on this sketching action too (and who could resit the temptation). Tristan was so caught up by my tales of cabaret, campari and crayons that he even popped along to the July event much to his own delight and wrote a cracking review.

Not bad for just the two events so far and there’s ever so much more to be revealed…
