Bring a beret and your jazz hands!

A lovely afternoon of drawing at the Owl Acoustic Lounge before hitting the the Lethbridge Art Crawl that evening!

Our model, Clair de la Lune, is presenting an afternoon of Fosse Jazz. Bob Fosse was an American choreographer who was highly influential to the jazz dance style. He was very simplistic yet powerful in his staging and movement. He used a cool, jazz sensibility in his choreography, yet it was burlesque in nature and sleek by choice with pelvic movement and heavy leans.

Fosse Jazz has engaging poses, angles and positions that suit the portrait artist greatly.

We’re also going to try out the Parisian method of life drawing whereas we start with longer poses and they get progressively shorter. So bring your beret, some paper and your drawing implements. French accents and moustaches optional.

Saturday, November 20th · 2:00 – 5:00
This was overheard from our Magician Model: Russian Roulette with a broken bottle and paper bags, floating masks, swallowing and regurgitating razors, producing silks...got a lot of things up my sleeve for Dr. Sketchys... Assisted by the lovely and talented Roberto Cannessa, Mistress of Mystery... classy and sassy...

Today, the Lethbridge Branch is getting all Mysteriouso and Magickally with Frater Tham and his assistant, Roberto. We have teamed up with the Southern Alberta Art Gallery as part of their Happy Hour series to bring you this incredible act for your viewing and drawing pleasure. If you are a member of the SAAG, admission is free, non-members $5! A total steal! We'll have our usual drawing contests and prizes. Also, there is a cash bar and extra drawing supplies if you are coming straight from work. Doors open at 5pm. Drawing at 6pm.

We are the first Happy Hour event in the newly renovated SAAG building - 601 Third Ave South, Lethbridge, AB! Come check out the new space as well as partaking in the cash bar and a little drawing.

Once again, we're attempting to draw outside in the gorgeous prairie landscape of Alberta with 5 beautiful Circus models!

Once again, the weather has plummeted to 5 degrees Celsius with freezing rain possibly forecasted for Saturday, the 18th!

Before you all start making jokes about Igloos, know that this weather is due to strange icelandic volcano gods and is totally unseasonable. Usually, the Albertan fall is a beautifully warm and sunny period of harvest. Rolling wheat and safflower fields, wandering buffalo and migrating birds. We have no desire to freeze our models to death. We like them. Truly, we do! Thank you in advance Tanya Zee, Prairie Dawn, Marie Helene, Mmmelanie and Beth Millions! You are truly troopers!

So despite the weather, we are going to stick it out for at least one shift in our beautiful 20ft x 20ft tent. If it gets too inclement, come find us at the OWL Accoustic Lounge on 3rd Ave. We will be having 30 minute posing sets on the hour, between 10 am and 3 pm. Come join us in the Circus ring - just don't forget your parka!

If you can't make it to the Traveling Road Show this Sunday in Blairmore, DO NOT DESPAIR! Dr. Sketchy's Lethbridge is coming to ArtWalk in September! Thats right we're going to be in Galt Gardens IN A FREAKING TENT! We're going to decorate so look for glamour and frivolity!

We'll have 30 minute drawing sessions every hour - starting at 10am. We'll also have 30 minute breaks so that all of you can wander around and enjoy the artyness of Lethbridge. With multiple models, we'll be able to have some amazing poses! We even hope to have long and short poses going on simultaneously - so everyone will be happy!

This is an all ages drawing session so bring ONE & ALL to the tent to draw! You don't have to draw well - butchya gotta try to draw at least. We'll be out doors so you may want to consider bringing, besides your regular drawing supplies - a drawing board/easel, a lawn chair or blanket, sunscreen, a hat and water. Of course, we'll have random drawing contests throughout the day too!

We're pretty excited, so we hope you come play with us... Oh and by the by, this is a FREE event! The AAC is helping us out and the models are all volunteering! Thanks models and Allied Arts Council!

Did I mention we are in a TENT! Wheeeeee!

Summer in Lethbridge

Alas, it is summer in Lethbridge and the annual exodus for places unknown has occurred. I’ve always had mixed feeling about this. I like the emptiness of the city but miss the mix of interesting people.

For this reason, Dr. Sketchy’s: Lethbridge is giving their selves a little spa vacation for the month of July. But do not despair! We have a lot of events in the works!

In August, we are taking Dr. Sketchy’s on the road to Blairmore. I am working on a residency at the Gushul Studios, with Christopher Moore, as part of the Trap\door Residency program. So we will be presenting a very different style of sketchy’s afternoon – a sketch walk! Watch this space for more details but keep Aug 29th open!

In September, we will be hosting a FREE, all-ages, circus themed Dr. Sketchy’s in Galt Gardens as part of Art Walk. Wheee! I’ll post up dates and times as we have them. Send us an email if you would like to volunteer your circus modeling skills.

We are also talking about doing an audio Dr. Sketchy’s on Trap\door Radio in the fall. Very excited about this opportunity!

We are planning a very magical Dr. Sketchy’s in October with the SAAG and a very French-style session for November with extra long poses for you painters… Also, we have been approached about holding a Dr. Sketchy’s Art Show next spring! So you’ll not want to miss any events so you can work on your submissions.

See you soon lovelies!
