Hello Dr. Sketchy-ers!
My name is Katherine, I am Ms. Flame’s pet code monkey and your humble web-mistress. I do my best to keep this site up to date so you can always see the fun things that go on at the 331 Club during the 4th Sunday of every month. I would like to supplement the usual posts about our sessions with a little adventure of my own :)

A few months ago, I was able to take a bit of a vacation from life and while exploring Europe I had the honor of attending a Dr. Sketchy’s in the far away land of Hamburg, Germany.

The location was the 439 Bar in the northern part of town in the middle of a residential area and the host was the fabulous Hedo Luxe. My travel partner and I were getting ready to hop a train to Berlin, but before we left I was determined to experience what other branches did with the Dr. Sketchy’s concept, even if it meant catching the last possible train (which is generally a terrible idea and should be avoided at all costs).

FIRE!!!! anything with fire makes me happy...

Although it wasn’t a terrible hindrance, I missed the whole introduction besides my name and Minneapolis because I don’t speak a lick of German. But Hedo Luxe was a wonderful host and wore the most spectacular costume so I didn’t care too much! He even played Prince for us to make us fee at home.

Hedo Luxe himself!
We were blessed with two models that day that took turns posing for us. The stage was set up between the bar counter tops which gave almost everyone a good view to work from.

The first model had a nautical theme, which seemed appropriate to us because Hamburg is a harbor city and we had just learned a lot about the city’s growth because of trade and the creation of the new Harbor City within Hamburg. The second model was wearing a cute, lacy black combination with flowers in her hair, holding a feather teaser…but don’t let me get away with just describing them…enjoy some pictures!

Lady in Black, she made flirty eyes with me A LOT. so cute
By the end I had a few fun sketches to commemorate the evening and entertain me for the train ride to Berlin while I colored them in. I may or may not have purchased these pasties too… They are pretty much the most amazing souvenirs one can buy on vacation!

Next time you’re on vacation, near or far, remember to use the branch look-up on the website to see if there are any Dr. Sketchy’s events going on near you. You are sure to meet some great people and it might be the perfect way to get away from feeling like a tourist…

Our dear friend and wicked talented musician, Kim Boekbinder, is doing a Kickstarter pre-sale of her upcoming US tour & is hoping to sell enough tickets to make it out to Minneapolis.

Check out the video here (http://kck.st/nBwiVM) and donate to the Minneapolis leg of the tour to help make the event happen. The date is set for Ocotober 23rd, the venue depends on the number of tickets that are sold. Fundraising is set to end September 6th so don't delay! every little bit helps.

Share this with your friends. make it happen!

----------------------------------------

The Impossible Tour: a pre-sold tour of 10 US cities in October/November 2011.

Minneapolis, MN - October 23rd

Amazing art is made possible by large groups of people. Some artists have record labels, managers, and huge touring budgets. Those people get to take chances, put on amazing shows, have costumes, lighting, publicity, and tour busses.

The Impossible Girl has you. I'm tired of playing small shows. I want to play big shows. And what I mean by "big shows" is not just the size of the audience, but the size of the art. I can do a big show for 10 people. And here's how:

In June 2011 I put up a Kickstarter for my first ever pre-sold show in New York City. The show sold in 24 hours and I was able to put on an amazing show for an excited audience of people who helped make the show happen. I had an amazing stage set, projections, great sound, a wonderful webcast, and a show recording.

This time I'm doing a tour. Each city has a date, the venue will be determined by the size of the audience. 10 people means a magical house show, 100 people means an intimate venue, 1000 people means an amazing concert at a rock club with fantastic sound and lights.

The shows will only happen if you make them happen.

OCTOBER 13th - San Diego, CA

OCTOBER 14th - Los Angeles, CA

OCTOBER 15th - San Francisco, CA

OCTOBER 21st - Seattle, WA

OCTOBER 22nd - Portland, OR

OCTOBER 23rd - Minneapolis, MN

OCTOBER 27th - New Orleans, LA

NOVEMBER 4th - Boston, MA

NOVEMBER 5th - Hartford, CT

NOVEMBER 12th - New York, NY

Buy a ticket. Spread the word. Make art happen.

If you don't see your city on the list, don't be sad. I will add more dates if these shows sell well. The best way to get me to add dates is to tell people about my tour, then email me to tell me where you want me to play.

Molly Crabapple will be illustrating a unique poster for each show on the tour, that means your show gets its own poster. I'll be posting these as they are completed.

=======================

WHERE THE MONEY GOES:

Touring is EXPENSIVE, which is why pre-selling a show is so important for me. $1000 is the minimum goal, but I can always use more. More money made = more money spent on making the show great.

- Travel costs
- Venue costs
- Merchandise
- Opening acts
- Stage decorations

=======================

(I will endeavor make all of these shows all ages. If for some reason I cannot make a show all ages I will find a way to put on a show just for my audience members who are under 21 and/or refund tickets.)

Thanks to all that joined us after a short break for our guilty pleasure theme of Heavy Metal! Our special guest from NYC, Minnie Tonka would have made Bon Jovi proud. Our challenges this month were to draw Minnie: camping out for concert tickets, getting kicked out of a hotel room and as the lead singer of a metal a band. Man did you people ever deliver! Thank you and for being such talented and good sports. I said I wouldn't apologize for my play list but..........ok, maybe 2 W.A.S.P songs were too much. Love you people!

Hope to see you for next session on Sunday August 28th featuring Frenchie Kiss from Chicago.
This months theme will be all things......French!
Cheers,
Ophelia Flame

Fun was had by all at the last session of Sketchy's Twin Cities when we said FUCK YOU to February! This winter has been brutal. So we used lots of color and focused our challenges on things related to spring in hopes that it will hurry up and arrive. Challenges were best of model: as a spring flower, either coming out of or laying an egg and tiptoeing through the tulips (in pointe shoes mind you) Special thanks to the amazing artist and our fabulous model Queenie Von Curves!
Hope to see you next session on March 27th, which happens to be my birthday!

Cheers,
Ophelia Flame

The challenges were: best of Theodora and Shanty Man at sea, in a coat of arms and in a cartoon series. Thanks to everyone who turn out and hope to see you next session!

Hello!
Sunday's session with Gina Louise was fantastic and what a wonderful turn out. Thanks to all, old and new who showed. Gina open the session up with a short warm up then inspired us with an act to Julie London's "Yummy Yummy Yummy" When I got to the 331 to set up there was a giant Styrofoam banana on the stage. Can I mention this is one of the many reasons I love me life? A giant banana is such an everyday occurrence I just shoved it into the storage closet. Imagine Gina's delight when I was able to just pull that thing out when she said "I wish I'd brought some food to pose with" Utterly Ridiculous.

Contests were challenging this session with: Best of Gina w/ Baby New Year or Father Time, Best of Gina & Ophelia taking on the world and Gina Louise with Cabin fever. As usual the Art Monkey's of the Twin Cities produced some really fun stuff. We had a fellow new member from the Sketchy family with us for the holidays too. Maggie Zukowski of the new Salt Lake City branch stopped by with some friends. We had a nice time chatting. Best of luck Maggie!

Happy New Year!
Cheers,

What an awesome session! November 28th marked the inaugural session of singing at Dr. Sketchy's Twin Cities. The lovely Kitten Van Der Snatch did her breath taking and hilarious rendition of Rossini's "Largo al factotum." We honored the birthday of Motown Mogul Berry Gordy and showcased some awesome skills in shading. Congrats to our winners and thanks to all who came out on the holiday weekend.

Whoo-hoo! Thanks to all that came out to our last session on October 24th featuring Tila Von Twirl from Chicago. Since Tila did her Mary Jane act we decided focus some contests around........Pot. Equally as ridiculous in another contest titled This Moment in History we also celebrated the birth of Dennis Anderson (the creator of Monster Truck "Grave Digger"). Praise be the gifts Mr. Anderson has brought to HUMANKIND! Needless to say the incorporations of Tila like or as a Monster Truck were delightful. See you next month!
