It's been a long, hot summer here in the Junc, and Sketchyjunction has taken a break. We nixed the July session (due to historically low turn-out during the summer months) and we'll be restarting on Tuesday, August 27. We aren't exactly sure who the models are going to be, but Miss Phoebe has some great ideas... What we can confirm is that there will be an awesome line-up, great music, cheap drinks, and fun door prizes!

Exciting New Changes at Dr. Sketchy of the Upper Valley!

After a slow summer, our branch really kicked things back into high gear with our presentation of "Alice in Vampireland." This session featured our youngest-ever model (Fiona B., age 6) as a very convincing Alice, a sinister Mad Hatter, a vampiric Red Queen, and a crazy Cheshire Cat. We got great reviews from our artists, with praise for the models, the costumes, and sequence of poses (see pictures here).

Then we got some bad news that turned into good news... The American Legion in White River Junction, VT, where we had been meeting informed us that they would be shutting down. Just when it seemed like we had gotten our groove back! One of our regular attendees contacted me to see what the next session was going to be. I told her that, due to the loss of our venue, there may not be a next session... Our heroine jumped into action, and next thing I knew we had a new home! From now on, Dr. Sketchy of the Upper Valley will be meeting every sixth Tuesday in the events room beneath Triple Play Cards & Comics in the Glen Road Plaza in West Lebanon, NH. Our next session, "The World of Nikola Tesla," will be held at 7:30 on Tuesday, December 11. The other cool thing about this change is that this will be a BYOB venue. Admission will be $10 at the door ($8 in advance) with a $2-per-drinker surcharge for those who which to bring alcoholic beverages. This is particularly fantastic news for the hipsters of our community who, instead of paying $5 per beer at the Legion bar, can now buy a whole 6-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon for the same price!

Branch Name Change

We're still the same ol' Sketchyjunction Crew, but now, instead of being Dr. Sketchy of White River Junction, we're officially Dr. Sketchy of the Upper Valley! We are still down-gritty and we'll still be bringing you the same quality of crazy/cool models. And, for the time being, we will still be meeting at the American Legion in beautiful downtown White River Junction.

So what does the name change mean? We were just a little concerned that if we are no longer to meet at the Legion in the Junc, we would need to find another venue--and let's face it, there aren't that many places in White River that would be suitable for us--so if the new venue happened to be in Lebanon, West Lebanon, or Hanover... Well, we just thought it would be a little confusing for people if we advertised "Dr Sketchy of White River Jct.," meeting in Lebanon!

We hope you'll join us on Wednesday, February 29th for our very special 1st anniversary celebration of Dr. Sketchy in the Upper Valley. Our model and muse for the evening will be a great Elvis impersonator, we'll be serving cake, and as always there will be cheap drinks (our special will be "Blue Suede"), great door prizes, and lots of fun!

Admissions is $10 at the door or $8 in advance at http://www.drsketchy.com/branch/whiteriverjunction. The advance purchase button doesn't work 100% of the time, so if it gives you trouble please email Miss Phoebe at sketchyjunction@yahoo.com.

Our January session, “Biker Babes,” was arguably our best session yet. Long poses of skin, steel, and curves combined with cheap drinks and great entertainment… What more could an artist ask for?

Our models for the evening were Jennifer and Yarrow, two beautiful young ladies who love to ride and look great doing it. They were a lot of fun to work with, interacted well with the crowd, and were amenable to suggestions for poses from the artists.

Our entertainment for the evening was Hell’n Fury, a burlesque performer with a knack for sideshow fun. Hell’n is the cofounder of Drew Blood & the Pickled Punks Sideshow and the founder of Whiskey Makin’ Mamas. She first performed a Carmen Miranda-style burlesque, followed by her sideshow act. This included catching a mousetrap on her tongue, dancing (and jumping) on broken glass, and eating fire. The audience was mesmerized! Luckily for us, Hell’n has promised to return—probably in July—to both model and perform.

	We’re looking forward to it!

Of course, our thanks goes out to Granite State Harley Davidson for the sponsorship of the session and use of their gorgeous bikes. Check them out at http://www.granitestateharley.com and tell them Dr. Sketchy sent you!

So I've been slacking on keeping the website updated. My household was in an uproar over the holidays, we've had renovations going on, and I just haven't felt like myself lately. But here we are.

The last session, held in December, was "A Very Sketchy Christmas." We featured Yule C. LeBeouf as Santa and Diva J as Mrs. Claus. It was a great show and we had some really good music by Steven Neas and Alex Perry from the band Turnaround Sundown. The band will be releasing a new CD soon, and I hope they'll join us again.

The upcoming session (which is tonight, actually) is "Biker Babes" sponsored by Granite State Harley Davidson. We have two beautiful models, Yarrow and Jennifer, and their bikes. These lovely ladies will be holding a series of increasingly sexy poses in 5- and 10-minute increments so artists will have plenty of time to capture every curve of skin and steel. Door prizes tonight will include "The Art of Big City" by the renowned designer Ragnar (Baby Tattoo Books/$40), a $10 gift certificate to Bean's Art Store in Hanover, NH, and swag from the Harley store.

Next month, we'll be celebrating the one-year anniversary of Dr. Sketchy in White River Junction. So exciting! The February session "Dr. Sketchy Meets the King" will feature an Elvis tribute artist who will be both our model and our entertainment for the night. There will also be cake! Who doesn't love cake?

Team Sketchyjunction is already getting geared up for our October 26th session, Zombie Attack! (Now with More Zombies!) A friend of the team, Dan Jensen of Jensen PhotoArts made us an absolutely fantastic poster for the event, and we're currently in the costume-designing stage. Instead of our usual two models, we really wanted to have a zombie hoard (hence the "more zombies" tagline) so we've hired four great models for our cadre of artists to draw. Additionally, we have the lovely and extremely talented toni atari booked as our entertainment for the night. You won't want to miss this <strike>death</strike> life-drawing workshop!

Our September session, Fall Fantasy, starred Rusty Dewees (author and entertainer) and jewelry designer Caitlin Christiana, who had made some custom bling for the show. We'll be posting pictures from that show soon. Happily, a reporter from 7Days was there and gave us a really nice write-up. You can read it here. For more information about Dr. Sketchy of White River Junction, please visit us at www.sketchyjunction.webs.com.

A couple of weeks ago we had our "American Steampunk" session. The models were Landship Lt. Nathaniel Flint (aka Nate Powell) and Lady Kirst Callahan. They were both absolutely wonderful and I saw a lot of great artwork come out of that session. Our photographer, Jon Smith, did an excellent job in capturing the models poise and personalities. Our entertainment for the evening was Michael Kennedy, who played an authentic industrial revolution-era concertina and a singing saw (which was absolutely amazing!) He also told some really cool old-time stories. If anybody every needs this type of performer, please let us know and we will happily send you his contact information! Pictures can be found on our photo page, broken into two groups: Models/performers and Artists/spectators.

Our next session, which is scheduled for September 14th, is going to be "Fall Fantasy" in celebration of Vermont's most magical season. We hope to see you there!
