Salt Lake city is brimming with weddings this time of year, and all the white lace and pink bouquets is getting a little old. So we decided to mix it up by putting on an "Anti-Wedding" themed event! Many thanks to our brilliant counterparts in the Philippines (from whom we stole the idea). It's sure to be THE bridal event of the season, so don't miss it!

Our August event will celebrate the upcoming "back to school" season with tiny plaid pleated skirts and knee-high socks (which, let's be honest, is a far more appealing image than the ever-inflating tuition costs and ever-deflating importance of a four year degree). We'll be featuring the ravishing beauty Miss Jolie Rouge, of local dance troope Fever! Burlesque.

We'll have the usual wacky drawing contests, with prizes provided by sponsors The Blue Plate Diner and The Hive Gallery. We are also super amped (to use the local dialect) to have Paper Wasp as our newest sponsor! A local crafty artsy genius, Paper Wasp can be found on Etsy and on the good old Facebook. Check it out and discover a local gem for crafty gift-y treasures!

Also, find our little ad in SLUG Mag, Salt Lake's finest (and raddest) arts and entertainment publication, and a Dr. Sketchy's SLC sponsor (yeah, we're cool like that, we've got the hippest friends in the valley)!

Our sixth event here in the SLC was a smashing success! We featured models Annie Defae and Meg Hinds of local belly-dancing troope "Blue Lotus Collaborative"... and they were absolutely stunning! Don't believe my hype? Check out this ten-minute pose:

Yep, pretty much the most impressive pose in the history of Dr. Sketchy's (not to mention that bangin' bod!)

Our June event was a hit!

Our models were local SLC rock stars Allison Martin and Dago Marino of the electronic dance band My Dead Ego (do yourself a favor and listen to their new EP for free on their Facebook page!) and The Last Look, local alt. country indie rock band. Our theme was "trashy 80's pop music wanabee", and I think we pinned that down perfectly! With Allison starting the night as the prego, cigarette smoking, leggings wearing vamp...

...and ending as a Madonna/Pat Benatar/Marla Singer character in a black crinoline tutu and Chucks. Her partner in crime, Dago, rocked some pretty bold denim cutoffs, a greasy mullet and matching porn 'stache, and the obligatory chunky measuring tape ("haven't you noticed that rednecks always carry around measuring tapes on their belts?").

We were lucky to have our favorite local photographer, Devin Jordan, stop by to take some stunning pictures (see tons of his work here), like this:

We gave away some rockin' prizes from Baby Tattoo Books and The Hive Gallery. As always, our home turf Bar Deluxe was fabulous, and our favorite underground literary genius, SLUG Magazine, was ever-so-peachy.

All in all, it was a screaming success! See all the pics at the "Photos" section of our blog, and just you wait to see what we're cookin' up for next month! It smells spicy...

This time around we'll be featuring local musicians Allison Martin and Dago Marino of My Dead Ego and The Last Look who will be modeling in their dirtiest animal prints and neons and cut-offs to create an 80's drawing experience like nothing that's been done before! There will be the usual drawing contests, with my new and improved constantly evolving voting system, and some NEW and awesome prizes!

As a special treat we will also have LIVE MUSIC by Alison and Dago and their band after the drawing part of the show, which we've never done before! It's should be a fabulously trashy (perhaps even a bit offensive, not gonna lie) party!

***In the last post I mentioned that one of our sponsors, SLUG mag, gave Sketchy's SLC a major shout-out, and if you want to see the article in all its glory, it can be found here.
TRANNY Tales

Our May event was a Tranny Tableau in anticipation of the Utah Gay Pride festival to be held in Salt Lake June 3-5. It was a dynamic display of the best and most beautiful the SLC has to offer!

With so many models, we did the pose times a bit different and had the first half of the show with a set of four fifteen minutes poses which featured Peter Priesthood, the "genderfuck" extraordinaire Glitter, Marilyn Go Lightly and, the infamous Princess Kennedy. The ladies were dazzling, delighting and challenging the Art Monkeys and giving all in attendance an eyeful of long legs and lean figure!

The second half of the program brought all the models together on stage for a sultry read-aloud by Peter Priesthood of some racy fiction, which gave our audience a chance to be a bit more selective in their drawings, as well as a chance to listen to some fabulous literature.

This month, we instituted a voting system for awarding prizes in which everyone participates and gets to see all the entries before submitting their ballot. Although the process was a bit inelegant in its initial stage, it certainly went over better than the previous method (level of applause) and it really was a great way to interact with everyone at Bar Deluxe. As with every event, we'll be honing and improving our voting system (insert witty joke about the state of the American voting system here).

Our prizes for May were fabulous, with books from Baby Tattoo, gift certificates from Blue Plate (nom nom nom), and a great set of pencils and paper from the Hive Gallery! And, of course, the support from SLUG Mag is absolutely incredible, and the June issue will contain an article referencing Dr. Sketchy's SLC by none other than Princess Kennedy! And it all comes full circle...! If you thought she was only eye candy...

...you would be sorely mistaken! Yep, she's more than the source of the phrase "legs for days", she also is a columnist and contributor to all sorts of local publications, and she included us in her upcoming SLUG article! Pretty exciting!

Check out the photos from this, and all, month's events at the "PHOTOS" section of the SLC branch blog, and get ready for the June edition because it's gonna be WILD! We'll leave you with a couple more images from last month, all captured by yours truly, Miss Maggie Bliss.

The May event will be held at the ever hip Bar Deluxe on the 23rd at 8:30 pm.

This event features Princess Kennedy, local celebrity and columnist extraordinaire for Salt Lake's arts and entertainment rag, IN Magazine, as well as contributor to one of our sponsors, SLUG. She is certainly a staple of the SLC gay pride scene, and will be modeling for us along with her crew -- a veritable Tranny Troupe spanning the rainbow of tranniness. There will be some exciting new drawing contests, with prizes from the always-popular Baby Tattoo Books and Blue Plate Diner. So come on down and spice up your Monday! Whether it be for a fresh figure drawing challenge, for great drinks and company, or to support local arts and the local GLBT scene, we'd love to see you! It's ten bucks to draw and two bucks to come and ogle the smokin' hot models.

Spring Gets Sexy

Even though it's been dreary and intermittently snowing here in Salt Lake, we celebrated spring anyways on Monday by sketching stunning, floral-adorned women and throwing a swingin' party at Bar Deluxe.

Our theme was "Spring Goddesses" and our models sported antlers and sparkles and gauzy, flowing fabrics. This time around, we were lucky enough to have Devin Jordan, photographer extraordinaire, take some incredible shots of the event, all of which can be found here, or at the "photo" section of our blog.

The icky weather didn't keep the monkeys away, and there was a good (and mega-talented) crowd of new and old faces at Bar Deluxe, our fabulous State Street home. We also had a great gawker crowd, who got to get in on the hot-model ogling action and got a chance to check out the mind-blowingly brilliant art that was being created.

One of our models for the night was back by popular demand (she is just too damn hot!), but this time she was in an entirely different character.... Whereas last month Katt was a nice-and-naughty picnic basket-toting siren, this time she became a bare-footed spring pixie, with animal-print panties and wild hair laden with fresh cherry blossoms.

The second model of the evening was new to us, a sultry, earthy beauty who works locally with Hula Hoopology and performs all over the metro area. She is the Earth Goddess at this year's Earth Jam coming up this weekend at Liberty Park in Salt Lake. Heidi Lynn Butterfly was a perfect Spring Idol, rocking antlers and gems and wowing the crowd.

We gave out some killer prizes from our fabulous sponsors Blue Plate Diner, What Katie Did, Baby Tattoo Books, and our newest partner, The Hive Gallery. And a Thank You is due to our local literary sponsor, SLUG Magazine, for their support and help with our effort to get the Dr. Sketchy's Word out on the streets of the SLC!

With that success under our proverbial belts, we're gearing up for May's event, which is going to be an epic Sketchy's bash, unlike anything that's been done before! Without blowing the surprise load all right now, let's just say it'll be a nod to the upcoming Salt Lake Gay Pride event, and will feature a local vocal celebrity and her colorful crew...

Before we go, we'll share one final image of our April event...

This time around we'll have gilded, antlered, floral-clad women in celebration of the season! It will be a sort of pagan goddess forest theme, with natural elements and dramatic modeling and costuming. Think gold body paint, wild hair, floral headpieces and bare feet. It will be a sort-of altar setup, with branches and candles and sexily-silk-draped ladies.

At the ever-awesome Bar Deluxe Monday, April 25 at 8 PM.

With drawing games and prizes from our awesome sponsors: Baby Tattoo Books, What Katie Did and Blue Plate Diner. And this month we're joining forces with The Hive Gallery (well, they are lending their considerable weight and expertise to our little enterprise) to continue to create an ever-changing and improving event!

Our final sponsor, SLUG Magazine, is showing us mad love on their events page!

So get the word out, invite all of your friends, and bring a bucket of drawing supplies! If you're gonna art, bring ten bucks. If you're gonna gawk, bring your eyeballs. And everyone save up a few dollars so you can be sure to get in on the refreshing alcoholic offering of Salt Lake's raddest bar!

Our second, picnic-themed event sure was a screaming success! Already there was triple the turnout we had last time and the feedback and support from the "SL-sCene" was loud and flattering! Our model Katt, another Slippery Kitten burlesque beauty, was smokin' hot....

...and we played up the 50's pinup picnic theme with Astro Turf, checkered picnic blankets, daffodils, vintage kitschy lawn chairs and a pink plastic flamingo. Katt was fabulous and even braved the rickety-and-somewhat-unreliable, blue, plasticky, tri-fold, awesome-goodwill-find chair, and looked damn good doing it!

There were tons of artists there, all sorts of monkeys, from a lady using oil paints to a guy with a digital tablet! We had people working huge and some working tiny, using charcoal and sharpies and highlighters and everything else under the fake summer sun of Bar Deluxe. Speaking of Bar Deluxe, we're in love! I know it's been said, but Bar Deluxe is positively the perfect place to hold Dr. Sketchy's SLC! And as long as we're allowing a little alliteration, we gotta thank our super sponsor SLUG Magazine for helping us get out the good word! Also, Salt Lake's "Best Breakfast of 2011" winner, Blue Plate Diner, the most delicious and down-to-earth display of delectable dishes, featuring some very inviting vegetarian and vegan selections. And let's not forget the bombastic Baby Tattoo Books and the wild and wonderful wares of What Katie Did. Wow!

Check out more photos from the event in the photo section of our blog! Also, Katt's fabulous and photographically talented husband Devin Jordan took some killer pics which you can check out here.

Our next event will be April 25th, and is shaping up to be absolutely mind-blowing! We're making friends left and right, and all of these new connections are sure to converge to create some epic events! Our theme will be announced momentarily, so just keep your pants on (or don't) and stay tuned!

Here's one last visual delight...
