Branch Blog - Baltimore, MD
Mon, March 24, 2014 • Dr. Sketchy’s Baltimore is tonight with Valeria Voxx!

Next Dr. Sketchy's Baltimore is Monday, March 24th with Valeria Voxx of Black Tassel Boolesque at the Windup Space!

Spring is almost here! No more carting your ArtBins to the Windup on bobsleds, no more tying up your huskies to the bike rack, no more, "Oh my God, I have to let my fingers warm up for 45 minutes before I can even draw a damn garter clasp!"

There will probably be birds chirping, our poor suffering models won't need a space heater to preserve their sensitive bits, and baby fawns will be prancing down North Avenue with their mothers.

Can you feel that spring breeze yet? Hear the happy coughing of smokers not freezing to death? The feel of your brush swirling through ink that wasn't frozen solid twenty minutes ago?

It's coming. It's going to be like the last twenty seconds of a allergy medication commercial.

And who's going to usher this technicolor Disney movie into your sketchbook? The stupendous, vivacious, don't-look-too-long-or-your-girlfriend-will-slap-the-songbirds-right-out-of-you, glass-stomping Valeria "I got your spring right here" Voxx has you covered.

If you're not familiar, here's her bio.

"Valeria is a member of Black Tassel Boolesque, the mid-Atlantic region’s only spooky burlesque troupe. She’s the fiery red head that gets your soul all “hot and bothered”.

"This second-generation sideshow vixen has performed in her native Baltimore at The Windup Space, Ottobar (where she competed to be the Queen of Crabs at the Baltimore Beauty Pageant), and Club Orpheus, as well as in DC at the Bier Baron, Black Cat, and the celebrated Red Palace. Up and down the east coast you may have seen her at the Jim Thorpe, Philadelphia, and Asheville Americana Burlesque Festivals. She has also performed with Twisted Knickers, The Baltimore Birdcage, DC’s Valentine Candy Burlesque the recent production of Barbarellesque, and is part of the Baltimore branch of Dr. Sketchy’s as well as the 1930′s dustbowl era circus-themed show, The Carnivalesque Roadshow."

She'll be performing in MICA's upcoming "Workin' the Tease" exhibition as well, which you've probably started to hear about.

Oh, and wait till you see the half-time performance.

I would also be remiss if I didn't mention she's "torn your ticket" at the door at many a past Dr. Sketchy's. :)

****

There’ll be contests with prizes from Turtle Creek Coffee, not to mention adult beverages and whatnot.

Doors at 6, start at 7. 18+ to draw, 21+ to drink. Show up early to get a good seat.

$10 at the door.

No photography or messy paints, please (watercolors are fine).
