Mon, July 18, 2011 • Tooting our own horn: Wellington welcomes the wonderful, beautiful and talented Miss Venus Starr
Sometime next year our long time branch mistress Rachel Rouge will be hanging up her stilettos, packing away her tassels and heading off backpacking. But that is a long time in the future. Right now Dr. Sketchy Wellington proudly welcomes a new branch mistress The incredible Miss Venus Starr who will be taking over the Wellington branch 100% from November and had already started working behind the scenes.
Both Venus and Rachel (who seems to be addicted to writing about herself in the 3rd person) were interviewed by The Dominion post, the article was published in the newspaper (as above) and in the online in the lifestyle section with the title Burlesque puts life into drawing classes. We ran a competition on our Facebook group to spot the mistakes (they printed that we run fortnightly instead of monthly and neglected to mention the wonderful Hamilton branch). At the same time they published the article in the local news section under the title Drag queens put life into drawing classes. This leads us to believe that either the editors of Stuff/Dom Post are covering their bases and hitting different demographic (good on 'em) or they think burlesque draws a national crowd while local Wellingtonians love drag queens. Maybe. We love both drag queens and burlesque.
We are very happy to note that they included Hamilton in the drag queen version of the article.
