Branch Blog - Fargo, ND

It's been a helluva weekend.  Bad Weather Burlesque made its big debut in Fergus Falls Minnesota on Friday December 30.  We did a burlesque show in conjunction with Joel Hegerle's art exhibit at A Center for the Arts in Fergus Falls.

Joel does wonderful mixed media pieces almost reminiscent of surrealist assemblages, but with a regional flare.  He also does neon sign bending, and was even gracious enough to do  some neon set pieces for the stage.
I was also invited to do a Dr. Sketchy's session with The lovely Miss Anytime Jones.  I jumped in for a few poses as well.  The session was backstage of the theatre, and it was the  perfect mixture of  visual art and burlesque.  Our gracious host Michael made sure our glasses not runneth empty and

We had a pretty decent turn out for out December session of Dr. Sketchy's Fargo with the lovely Dizzy Dame.  Fargo is pretty new to Dr. Sketchy's so I have been testing out venues for the event.  This time around I held it at The Red Raven Espreso Parlor.

The Dizzy Dame has a bit of Vaudevillian in her blood. Two women in her family were dancers in the golden age; one danced on broadway as a rockette in the 30s and 40s, the other toured the famous vaudeville circuit and sang in night clubs in nyc-- she was even proposed to over Ginger Rogers. Perhaps she gets her passion from that side of the family!

The Dizzy Dame brings to mind the golden age of Hollywoodland and what better prize to dole out but tickets to the beautiful art deco Fargo Theatre (Fargo's only independent

During the October session of Dr. Sketchy's in Fargo we were graced with the presence of the lovely and talented Janessa Jaye Champagne.  Our theme was "The Exquisite Corpse" inspired by the surrealist drawing game, Janessa came prepared dressed as Medusa with a serpentine head dress (the costume was of her own design!)

One of the best things about North Dakota is that there still are frontiers to pioneer.  Within the past couple of years Fargo has seen its first roller derby team and burlesque troupe.  So obviously the first session was appropriately titled "Exploring New Frontiers".  Our first models were yours truly (The Alabaster Disaster) dressed to the nines in her cowboy garb, and her good friend Mr. Levi Shipley donning his finest feathers.  (It's not everyday you get a pair of tall dark and handsome fellers like us to grace the same stage.. HA!)

We had a pretty diverse group, ranging from experienced drawers to people

Well, well, well, it looks like Fargo has been tangled up in that world wide web again, but now for the sake of art and burlesque...combined. I finally got all of the webwork done on the Fargo branch page, and I must say I'm pretty proud of it. Though I'm not the most computer savvy person on the block. The first session is going to be in conjunction with my first solo art show, and I am also the first featured model. Mainly because then I don't have to pay myself and then I can spend more on advertising. Plus I do have eight years of figure modeling experience. The overall theme is "Exploring New Frontiers"... and have what else but a western theme, which seems very appropriate for North Dakota. I would rather embrace my inner cowgirl than raise tribute to the movie "Fargo".. I love the Coen Brothers but I think
